Why would anyone need e-mail?
I was talking to a client yesterday about promoting GIS to the executives at his organization. He made the analogy of executive behavior when e-mail first came out. Many executives asked why they would need e-mail since secretaries do all that. (Sad to say some executives still have their administrative assistants PRINT their e-mails, hand write responses on the paper, and have the AAs send responses).
Like e-mail before, today geospatial applications are mystery to many. As with e-mail before, getting executives to realize the value will take time and linkage to critical business initiatives. While GIS will never be as ubiquotous as e-mail, incorporation of location awareness and geospatial analysis features into commonly used applications will be.
